How to Find Motivation in The Winter

I got a DM the other day that stopped me in my tracks. It said, “How do you stay motivated to work out when it’s cold outside? I’m struggling.” And I felt that. Winter makes everything feel heavier! Getting out of bed, getting dressed, getting moving, etc. But winter is also when consistency matters the most. And that DM inspired me to sit down and write this. A reminder that you don’t have to leave your warm house, or rely on motivation alone, to stay active this season.

This is where LJW becomes a game changer. When it’s 20 degrees outside and your car feels like a block of ice, the last thing you want is to drive to a gym. With LJW, you don’t have to! Every workout is created to be done in the comfort of your warm home, no traveling and no weather excuses. You can roll out of bed, throw on a sweatshirt, and get it done right in your living room. The workouts are quick, intentional, and designed to fit into busy, unpredictable seasons. And honestly? Having a community of women doing the exact same workout as you makes showing up feel a lot easier.

One thing I told her in that DM (and something I remind myself often) is that you have to treat your workouts like your job. You don’t always want to get out in the cold and go to work, but you do it because you and your family depend on you showing up. The same is true for your health. Your future self depends on you. Your energy, your confidence, your strength, your mental clarity, they’re all relying on the choices you make today. You don’t have to love every workout, and you definitely won’t feel motivated every time, but showing up anyway is what builds the version of you you’re working toward. Consistency isn’t about being excited, it’s about honoring the commitment you made to yourself, even on the cold days.

At the end of the day, winter doesn’t have to be the season where everything falls apart.

It can be the season where you quietly build the strongest version of yourself. And the science backs that up. According to Harvard Health, “Regular movement during the colder months supports your immune system, boosts mood, and helps counter the drop in energy that comes from shorter days and less sunlight”. In other words, staying active in winter isn’t just a fitness goal, it’s an act of taking care of your entire being. So whether it’s a full LJW workout in your living room or walking laps in your house, it all matters. Keep showing up, keep moving, and keep taking care of the you that’s going to walk confidently into the new year.
