Why Does Everyone Have Something to Say When You Start Changing?

Why Does Everyone Have Something to Say When You Start Changing?

If I’m being honest… when I started my fitness journey, it felt uncomfortable.

At first, it was the workouts. Then it was tracking my food.

But then I started sharing my journey…
And that felt even more uncomfortable.

But why?

I can clearly remember people around me saying things like:

  • “Oh come on, one bite won’t hurt you.”

  • “Why are you restricting yourself?”

  • “You’re working out too much.”

  • Even… “Muscles are kinda manly.”

And if you’ve been there, you know…
it can feel like judgment.

Like all eyes are on you for doing something different.

But here’s the truth…

Most people aren’t judging you.
They’re noticing you.

Because you’re doing something out of the norm… and that stands out.

So how do we push through that awkward phase?

How do we get to a place where we feel confident in our choices?

I’ll tell you what helped me 👇

1. Lean into the discomfort

Like Lexi always says:
“We don’t grow in our comfort zones.”

Discomfort = growth.

Let me put it this way…

If your kids were at school being themselves, making good choices, wearing something they loved…
and someone didn’t like it…

Would you tell them to stop?
To change who they are?

Of course not.

You’d tell them:
Be YOU. Do what feels right. Make good choices, even if others aren’t.

So why don’t we give ourselves that same energy?

2. A little tough love 🤍

Sometimes… people aren’t uncomfortable with what you’re doing.

They’re uncomfortable with what they aren’t doing.

Your habits might remind them of something they’ve been avoiding. Or something they said they’d start… but haven’t.

And that’s not your responsibility to fix.

A simple, calm:
“Is what I’m doing bothering you?” Can go a long way without being rude… just real.

3. OWN IT 🔥

Confidence shuts down a lot of noise.

  • “You work out too much.”
→ “28 minutes a day, baby! Quick, effective, and my mental health is better because of it.”

  • “One bite won’t hurt you.”
→ “You’re right! But I’ve got my day planned to hit my goals. Let’s grab dessert another time!”

  • “Why are you restricting yourself?”
→ “Honestly, I’m eating more than I ever thought I could—I’m just choosing better foods. My energy, sleep, and focus are SO much better.”

  • “Muscles are manly.”
→ “Well… call me Mike because I LOVE them.” 😌💪

When you’re confident… people tend to back off.

(It’s just like kids… but grown up 😂)

People have stopped commenting on my lifestyle in a negative way… it’s just who I am now because i’ve owned it!

You don’t need permission to take care of yourself.
You don’t need to explain your choices.
And you definitely don’t need to shrink your goals to make other people comfortable.

Keep going.

Because one day… you won’t be the one feeling judged.

You’ll be the one inspiring someone else to start.

To the moon 🚀🌙
