So, What Exactly Is a Ruck?
A ruck is simply a walk with a weighted backpack. That's it. There's no complicated gear, no special training plan, and no prior experience required.
Rucking has become a favorite in the LJW community because it turns a regular walk into something a little more challenging. While we love rucking, it's absolutely not required if you just want to walk it!
A 10K is about 6.2 miles, which sounds big until you're walking it beside friends. Conversation makes the miles fly by.
This Is a Casual Event, Truly
We want to say this loud and clear: all paces are welcome. Whether you power through at the front or stroll at the back taking photos, you belong here.
This isn't a race, and nobody is keeping score. Come hang out, get some movement in, and have a good time with us.
If you've ever felt nervous about showing up to a fitness event, this is a safe place to start. You'll be surrounded by women who are cheering for you, not comparing themselves to you.
How to Get Ready for Your First 10K Ruck
A little preparation goes a long way. These simple tips can help you feel comfortable from the first step to the last.
Start With a Light Pack
You don't need to load up a heavy bag to get the full experience. A comfortable, lighter pack is a great choice, especially if this is your first ruck. You can always add weight at future events once you know how your body feels.
Wear Shoes You Already Trust
Skip the brand new sneakers and choose a pair you've already walked in. Comfortable socks matter too, since they can make a big difference over six miles.
Pack Water and a Snack
Bring a water bottle, and consider tossing in something small to snack on. The event runs through lunchtime, so it helps to be fueled before and during your walk.
Dress for October
Fall weather in the Midwest can change quickly, so layers are your friend. Start with something you can easily take off and tie around your waist or tuck into your pack.
Bring Your People
One of the best parts of this event is who you can bring along. Grab a friend you've been meaning to catch up with, invite your sister, or bring your kids if they love a good adventure.
Moving together makes everything feel easier, and it turns exercise into a memory instead of a task.
If you're coming solo, that's perfectly fine too. You'll leave with new friends before you know it.
Your Next Step: Save Your Spot Today
Here's one simple thing you can do right now. Head to our event page, RSVP (it's free, and there's no limit on spots), and save the date in your phone with a reminder for the night before.
Then pick out your ruck, check your shoes, and text one friend to ask if she wants to come with you. Taking those three small steps today makes it so much more likely you'll actually show up on Sunday, and you'll be so glad you did.
We Can't Wait to Walk With You
Whether this is your very first ruck or your fiftieth, we're so excited to share this day with you. Come for the movement, stay for the community, and leave feeling a little stronger than when you arrived.
RSVP on our event page, grab a friend, and we'll see you at Smithville Lake on October 18.
