"I Kept the Promise to Myself" — Julie's Story
There are stories that stop you in your tracks. Julie's is one of them.
At a very young age, Julie experienced a tragedy that no child should ever have to carry. Her mother, a victim of domestic violence, had finally made the decision to leave — a brave and terrifying choice. But in early November of 1979, Julie's father showed up at her grandparents' house and convinced her mother to come to the car to talk. He had a shotgun. He killed her instantly.
Julie was there.
"This event really impacted and changed the trajectory of my life moving forward."
Living in the Aftermath
For years, Julie carried what that day left behind.
"I lived in fear. I never felt like I fit in."
As she got older, the weight of it compounded. Her self-confidence shattered. She struggled with addiction, using substances to cover feelings she didn't know how to hold. She told herself she was okay with doing nothing — and for a long time, she believed it.
"I was not kind to my body for a very long time."
What Changed
What brought Julie to Lexi J Wellness was something quieter than a dramatic turning point. It was a voice she kept hearing during workouts that sounded like it already knew her.
"When I hear Lexi talk, it really resonates with me from a recovery aspect. She says a lot of things that I hear on that path."
The language of recovery — showing up for yourself, releasing comparison, keeping promises to yourself — it was already in her. Lexi's words just kept meeting it.
Good nutrition. Physical movement. A community of women who wanted each other to win. For Julie, these weren't just wellness habits. They were healing.
"Being able to put healthy, clean, good nutrients in my body and have physical activity in my life has helped me as well."
Where She Is Now
"The part of me that used to always be in comparison or competition has pretty much left the situation."
That line alone says everything about how far she has come.
Julie isn't chasing anyone else's version of health or success. She's keeping a promise — the one she made to herself. And this time, she's sticking with it.
"I'm just so glad that I stuck with it this time."
Julie's story is a reminder of why this community exists — not just to help women look good or hit a PR, but to give people a place to show up for themselves, maybe for the very first time.
We are honored that you are here, Julie. Truly.
