How Alexis Found LJW: Lucky Gal, a Job Search, and a Maxi Skirt

Hello, welcome back to the LJW Mini Podcast! Today we have our marketing director Alexis back on to answer one question that we think everyone will want to hear: how did you hear about Lexi J Wellness?

It Started With Lucky Gal

"I first heard of Lexi Johnson from Miss Lucky Gal. Leah Gray."

Alexis had been following Leah Gray for a long time when she noticed something.

"She posted some stories about her doing the workouts and that they were hard. But they were like 28 minutes and super easy."

She clicked on Lexi's profile, looked around — and then life moved on. Until a few months later, when her best friend sent her a story that changed everything.

"My best friend sent me Lexi's story that said she was looking for a marketing director and she was like, 'You got to apply. This girl's so fun. You got to apply to this.'"

Shooting Her Shot

At the time, Alexis had been job searching for over a year — maybe two.

"I was just applying to things and never hearing back. So it was just one of those situations where I was like, 'Okay, I'm gonna shoot my shot, but I probably won't ever get a response.'"

But after she sent the application, she did one more thing. She texted Leah.

"I texted Leah from Lucky Gal and I said, 'I just applied to this job. What do you think of Lexi? Do you think this would be a good fit?' And she's like, 'Oh my god, I'm texting her right now. This is a good fit. You have to work for her.'"

About a month went by — Lexi was in a hard season and really busy. And just a day or two before Lexi finally reached out, Alexis's friend had asked if she'd heard anything.

"I was like, 'No, it's fine. My job's okay.' Like, whatever."

Then the message came.

The Interview — And the Outfit Dilemma

Lexi invited her to the house for an interview. Alexis called her friends in a panic.

"I remember facetiming my friends and being like, 'What do I wear to this interview? I don't even know.' And they were like, 'Well, she's gonna wear athletic clothes.' And I was like, 'But it's an interview. I can't show up at her house in athletic clothes.'"

She went with a maxi skirt and a cute top. Lexi was, of course, in athletic clothes.

"She was so genuine, so perfect. And she was like, 'Can you come tomorrow for lunch and meet the whole team?' And I was like, 'Yeah, I will do anything for you. I will do whatever you ask me to do.'"

She came back the next day, met the whole team, got hugs from everyone on the way in — and on the way out.

"As you should. Required."

That night, Lexi offered her the job.

"I was like, 'Yeah, I'm taking it. I don't care what you say.'"

From Internet to Real Life

Alexis had been following Lexi for a while before they ever met, so she had that moment of wondering what she'd actually be like in person.

"When you see somebody with over 200,000 followers, you're like — is she going to be who she says she is or whatever? But she absolutely was."

They hit it off immediately. They had both been at Mizzou at the same time — living across the street from each other at one point without ever crossing paths.

"It did not really feel like an interview. It just felt like chatting as friends and getting to know each other."

And if anything, Lexi was even better in person than online.

"Even better than who she is online, I would say. Which is somehow impossible."

One of the things that stood out most early on: Lexi's memory for her community members.

"She was just rattling off people in the community and like who they were and she'd be like, 'Yeah, I know exactly who that is.' There was just one day I remember working here being like, 'Holy crap, she knows every single person that does her workouts.' She has all these names memorized. I was flabbergasted, actually."

"Her memory is like impressive. It needs to be studied."

LJW Games — Her First Real Day

Alexis's first real introduction to the full scope of LJW was LJW Games — which happened to be her very first day.

"For the first like two weeks, I think, of working here, my mind was blown. Watching everybody get in line to take a picture with her — I had goosebumps. I was like, 'Oh my god, what's going on?'"

She was working with the videographer that day, and started hearing the stories girls were sharing on camera.

"Some of the girls were like, 'Yeah, I drove 9 hours to be here.' 'I caught a flight this morning from Seattle.' And I literally had tears in my eyes because I was like, 'Oh my god, I get to work for something so freaking cool.'"

And Leah Gray was there too — the woman who made it all possible.

"I remember going up to her and being like, 'Thank you so much.' What a perfect mixture of the pieces coming together. Totally God, honestly. Thank you, Jesus, for this job."
